Catholic Charities Receives Two Grants from the City of Wilmington

July 29, 2024— Wilmington, DE — Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington is pleased to announce the receipt of two grant awards from the City of Wilmington. The Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) of $25,000 each will support the Basic Needs Homeless Prevention Program and Bayard House, a residential maternity home. The CDBG Program is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The Basic Needs Homeless Prevention Program offers suitable housing and case management services for at-risk households. Financial assistance is available to pay rent, mortgage, or utility expenses that are in arrears. The program is open to eligible residents of the City of Wilmington who have low or moderate income.

Bayard House’s clientele include homeless, pregnant, and newly parenting young women (ages 12 to 27) in their first or second trimester of pregnancy. The residents receive safe shelter, nutritious food, and healthcare, as well as support in increasing their skills and knowledge to become self-sufficient.
