New Castle County Approves Funding for Catholic Charities Basic Needs Program

July 31, 2024 – Wilmington, DE — The Basic Needs program of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington, received a $50,000 community development block grant for homeless prevention services. The focus is to provide housing and services to the homeless, and those at risk of homelessness, in New Castle County, Delaware.

This program will allow Catholic Charities to assist with overdue rent, mortgage, or utility payments for households at risk of homelessness, and to offer case management and financial coaching to prevent future financial crises. Participants qualify based on criteria that includes income level and need of assistance with basic living expenses. The funds are available for the period July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025 from the New Castle County Department of Community Services, awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Catholic Charities has successfully operated housing preservation services focused on keeping people at risk of becoming homeless in their homes, or finding new homes for those who are homeless. For more information about Catholic Charities, contact a local office or go to ccwilm.org.
