The Journey Begins
“Kasha” has lived with her aunt since age 12, after her mother dropped her off and never returned. Born with a cognitive disability, Kasha faces daily communication challenges and needs support to express herself and navigate new situations.
When Kasha was 58, our team was able to acquire a spot for her at Marydale Retirement Village. At first, she was frightened by the idea of living on her own. But with steady encouragement and support from our team—and the reassurance that her aunt lived nearby—Kasha agreed to the move.
A Collaborative Effort
Helping Kasha feel at home in the Marydale community took time. During her first six months, the transition was challenging as she adjusted to new surroundings, routines, and relationships.
Gradually, with support and encouragement from Marydale’s dedicated staff and welcoming neighbors, Kasha slowly began to branch out and attend activities offered in the Community Center.
Just recently at a dinner activity, Kasha approached a staff member, gave her a big hug, and joyfully exclaimed, “I love living here and would not want to be anywhere else!”
